Collage
After working in an Art Library shortly after getting my BFA, I became a lifelong collector of printed ephemera. A short time later, I caught the flea market bug and started accumulating dimensional collectibles as well. When the pandemic hit, I began to seriously use my archives as raw materials for collage as I had been doing with the dimensional assemblage boxes for several years.
The pandemic pushed a lot of us inward and limited our social contacts; a perfect atmosphere to reflect and reassess. For me, it was a time in my life to decide on what exactly was I interested in and motivated to make going forward.
Having watched the “art world” morph in so many ways in my lifetime, it was time for me to decide what aspects of my work were most important. In the face of the larger art worlds aesthetic interests, I began to see that the direction it was taking was progressing toward something akin to a “Museum of Wall Text”!
And so what you see here is the birth of my conclusions: materiality, craft, color, composition, concept and most necessarily: humor! If “ART” cannot be fun and occasionally devoid of seriousness, pretentious or otherwise, I want no part of it.
As the viewer, I ask only that you immerse yourself in my celebration of marginally useful objects, replete with superficial articulation!
